A green pool is a chlorine problem that algae got to first. In Arizona it happens fast: water in the high 80s burns through chlorine, a monsoon storm drops organic debris that eats more of it, and a pool that was fine on Friday can be visibly green by Tuesday. It is rarely neglect. Two weeks away in July will do it.
The part that decides whether a recovery holds is the filter, and it is the part most often skipped. By the time the water clears, the filter is holding everything that was killed. If it is not cleaned properly — often more than once during the recovery — the pool goes green again within a fortnight and the homeowner reasonably concludes the treatment did not work.

Assess before treating
How far gone the water is decides the whole approach. There is a real difference between a pool that clouded over a long weekend and one that has been sitting since spring, and there is a point past which treatment stops being the cheaper answer.
Shock treatment
The water is shock-treated to kill the algae outright. This is chemistry, not a single dose — what the pool needs depends on its volume, its current stabiliser level, and how much organic load is in there.
Deep clean the filter
The filter is doing the actual work of removing dead algae, and it loads up fast. On a badly affected pool this needs doing more than once during the recovery. Skipping it is the single most common reason a green pool comes back.
Brush and vacuum every surface
Walls, steps, behind the ladder, and the floor. Algae anchors into plaster and pebble, and anything left behind is a starting colony for the next bloom.
Rebuild the chemistry
Once the water is clear, the balance gets built back from scratch rather than nudged. A pool coming out of a bloom has had its chemistry thoroughly disrupted and setting it up properly is what stops the cycle repeating.

How long does it take to clear a green pool?

Why did my pool go green again two weeks after it was cleaned?
Almost always the filter. During a recovery the filter is what physically removes the dead algae, and it loads up heavily — if it is not deep cleaned properly, and often cleaned again partway through, it holds enough organic material to seed the next bloom as soon as chlorine dips. The other common cause is chemistry that was cleared but never properly rebuilt, so the pool has no reserve. Sapphire Pools treats both as part of the job rather than as extras.
Is it cheaper to treat it or drain it?
Usually treatment, but not always, and the honest answer needs eyes on the pool. Once staining has set into the plaster or total dissolved solids have climbed past the point where the water will hold a balance, treatment stops being the cheaper route and a drain, acid wash and refill becomes the sensible one. Sapphire Pools will tell you which of the two you are looking at before starting rather than treating first and recommending a drain afterwards.
Can I swim in it once it is clear?
Not the moment it looks blue. A pool coming out of a bloom has been shock-treated well above normal swimming levels, and it needs chlorine to fall back into range and the balance to settle before anyone gets in. We will tell you when it is genuinely ready. If the pool is on a weekly Sapphire Pools route afterwards, the follow-up visit is also where we confirm the recovery actually held rather than assuming it did.
